The primary objective of this initiative is to create a single resource hub that will not only provide workforce development tools (starting with K-12 education), but also to serve as a support mechanism for employers and entrepreneurs in the Kansan tech sector." Nick joined the NetWork Kansas team in July 2020 as the Director of Remote Work and Entrepreneurship; leading a new initiative to develop tech education and create remote job opportunity throughout the state of Kansas. Nick has over 12 years of Economic Development and Entrepreneurship experience, most recently serving as the Executive Director of economic development for Phillips County (2014-2020) and as the President of wKREDA in 2017. Nick's professional career began in 2002 as Co-Owner and Director of Sales & Marketing for Poels Trading Ltd; a family operated international design company based in the United Kingdom. His passion for entrepreneurship, regional growth and collaboration across rural Kansas has been demonstrated through the development of multiple initiatives that have been widely recognized and replicated throughout the state.

Ron Grusenmeyer grew up on his family dairy farm in southwest Ohio and graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in dairy science. Ron served in multiple member relations positions with Dairy Farmers of America and its predecessor cooperative. In his current position as the Farmer Relations Manager, he provides leadership support to dairy farmers on behalf of Midwest Dairy Association, assuring implementation and accountability with program priorities and activities. He collaborates with industry contacts to build confidence in dairy farmers and the industry as it relates to sustainability, the environment, animal care and food safety.

NBAF is a world-class science facility for large animal agricultural research, training, and diagnostics that will be owned and operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). In the facility, USDA's Agricultural Research Service and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service will conduct comprehensive research, develop vaccines and antivirals, and provide enhanced diagnostic and training capabilities to protect the U.S. against transboundary, emerging, and zoonotic animal diseases that threaten our food supply, agricultural economy, and public health.
During this presentation, we'll present NBAF's mission and vision, review the development timeline, discuss facility features, and offer an update on our operational status and hiring to date.
Daniel Garas is the Outreach Coordinator for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) which will be operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Mr. Garas' role at NBAF includes coordinating and participating in meetings, conferences, panels, and other outreach activities in support of NBAF and creating and managing print and multimedia content for NBAF's website, social media, and other outreach and public-facing activities for the NBAF's communications team.
Prior to joining NBAF, Mr. Garas worked for the Defense Media Activity in Fort Meade, Maryland as a visual information specialist for the U.S. Navy and the Department of Defense and at the Naval History and Heritage Command in Washington D.C. as a web content manager for the Communications and Outreach Division. While working at NHHC, he was the recipient of the 2018 Russell Egnor Navy Media Awards for civilian videographer of the year.
Mr. Garas also served 19 years in the military, first serving in the Marine Corps Reserves as an Infantryman, then in the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Mass Communications Specialist where he studied public affairs, visual information and crisis communications.
Katie Pawlosky is the director of communications for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) which will be operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Ms. Pawlosky manages NBAF's public affairs and outreach programs – leading efforts to inform and educate various stakeholders about NBAF and to increase awareness of Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) research through strategic communication initiatives.
As director, Ms. Pawlosky also manages NBAF's internal communication efforts and serves as the top communications advisor to the NBAF director.
Prior to joining NBAF, Ms. Pawlosky served as the Marketing Manager at HCI Hospitality in Manhattan, KS whose portfolio includes national franchise Freddy's Frozen Custard, owner operated restaurants, and a regional leader in dog daycare. As marketing manager, Ms. Pawlosky managed print and digital marketing strategy, web and social media operations, guest relations, and local partnerships for more than 35 restaurants across the U.S.
Prior to her time at HCI Hospitality, Ms. Pawlosky served in various roles at The Master Teacher in Manhattan, KS—a nationally recognized provider of professional development resources and awards for educators. In her role as director of product management, Ms. Pawlosky managed strategic national partnerships, content and product development, and marketing strategy.
